Geneviève Canto
Born in 1953, graduated from the Beaux Arts Academy of Starsbourg , she lives now in a small village, not far from Aix en Provence, South of France
Winner of first Prize at the Fall Art Show in Paris, 1999
And chosen to be exhibited in
Canto creates primarily for private collections,
Cantocreates great canvas, brilliant and abstract. She uses acrylic paint, but also ink and oil . She paints with a palette knife, a paint brush or with the hands according to the effects wanted. With the use of materials Canto wants to strenghten the idea of women and to work on energy symbols.
As far as the principal characters in Canto’s work are concerned, the female is predominant and contributes to the emergence of conceptual and symbolic values. In various paintings, the female is used as the catalyst for the continuity of generations throughout the ages. In other paintings, the same female goes hand in hand with nature and its abundance and feminity
she becomes the symbol of beauty and force combined.
The figurative loses sometimes its anatomic structure,
giving way to a juxtaposition of expressive colors in a structure based more on swaying rhythms with a pronounced musical undercurrent.
In essence, the collected work of Canto is a metaphoric creation in which the artist gives shape to her own spiritual values.
