Lucy Boureau
I've always loved having my hands in clay, and working with other materials such as copper or steel, but when I was taught how to cast bronze in 2002, my work took on a new lease of life.Since then I have been striving to make bronze the lightest of materials, and pushing movement and balance to their limits.
As casting is very time consuming, today I enjoy being able to delegate part of the procedure which leaves more room for creating and experimenting. At the moment I'm busy playing with textiles, sometimes using their fibres in my waxes that then give extraordinary textures to the finished bronze, or simply coating textiles in resine and enjoying all that colour!
My inspiration? The people around me, their conversations .... maybe it's quite simply 'life'.
Where do I like to see my work? Outside. The everchanging light, the wind and the rain all play a role. In 2006 I was delighted to complete my first public commission, a monumental sculpture that now resides in a public square in Volgelsheim, Alsace, France; and I regularly take part in outdoor sculpture exhibitions.
