Nasha Mercier

A graduate of the Ecole des Arts Appliqués in Paris, she has created sculptures based on live models for over 25 years and at the same time works on personal creations that are moving further and further toward abstraction.

Fascinated by the transformation of matter, she sculpts primarily in clay and wax. The wax allows her to realize small sculptures, of just 2 to 4 inches, which when cast in bronze become models for larger versions she makes in clay (after a selection process) ranging from 30 inches to 66 inches high.

She invites the spectator to walk amidst her sculptures, as certain pieces tell a story (ie: the Oedipus complex): and the process of transformation of matter continues— the child becomes an adult as you walk around the sculpture.

She had numerous exhibitions under the aegis of the SEMA
(Society for the Encouragement of Careers in the Arts) between 1978 and 1982, when her success took her to Japan where she now shows her work permanently.
