The firing technique which originates in Japan consists of blackening the glazed objects by dipping them in sawdust at a temperature of 950 Celsius degrees. By a process which reduces the oxides the aspects of both the glaze and the clay are modified giving them different effects – of crockery, metal, blackened clay
